Security Guard

Hiring Range: $41,683.20 - $52,918.32/Year. It is anticipated that the hiring rate offered will be +/- the midpoint range depending on qualifications.


Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position, under the general supervision of a PCCA Police Supervisor, performs PCCA security duties, including fixed post and roving security patrols in a professional manner and in accordance with PCCA policy and Standard Operating Procedures. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Engages in roving/mobile patrols in an assigned PCCA vehicle, and within a defined geographical area; ensures security measures, systems, and components are in place to prevent unauthorized entry onto PCCA property
  • Staff fixed access control points throughout the PCCA facilities, maintaining an alert, vigilant watch to guard against unauthorized entries
  • Monitors docking and vessel movements from PCCA docks as directed and with a focus on safety and protection of PCCA property and personnel. Reports water meter readings and other information associated with vessel movements for each assigned dock
  • Checks all doors and gates of assigned facilities to ensure facilities are secure
  • Communicates information to and receives information from the Security Command Center on PCCA radio system and/or telephone, and reports to Security Command Center in accordance with established PCCA Police & Security Department policies and procedures
  • Provides scheduled relief for the Executive Administration Port Security Officer in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures for this position 
  • Operates the lobby security/reception desk of the Executive Administration building greets, checks in and announces visitors, answers the main phone console, transferring calls to PCCA personnel and answers general questions concerning the PCCA
  • Relays messages to PCCA personnel regarding visitors or telephone inquiries when needed and informs PCCA staff of packages received
  • Secures Port Executive Administration building by requesting proper photo identification of all visitors and in accordance with established PCCA policies and security department policies
  • Keeps and maintains visitor log in computer system
  • Performs walking patrols of the Executive Administration Building
  • Adheres to the provisions outlined in 33CFR105 and attends training as needed to remain in compliance with the regulations
  • Performs mail and other related courier duties including but not limited to the pick-up, sorting, delivery and distribution of mail from post office, intra-office and inter-office facilities utilizing an assigned PCCA vehicle, following a pre-determined schedule
  • Performs miscellaneous pick-up and delivery trips (special runs) in the Corpus Christi and surrounding area as required. 
  • Reports and issues or suspicious activity via radio or telephone to the Security Command Center. 
  • Communicate with employees, customers, vendors, etc. in a professional, coherent and effective manner
  • Adheres to Port policy and promotes a safe work environment
  • Promotes safety awareness and environmental consciousness and complies with all applicable safety and environmental procedures and regulations
  • Performs related duties as assigned by Port Police Supervisors, and the Security Command Center
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all PCCA access control procedures, policies, standard operating procedures
  • Maintain good employee relations and encourages and fosters a helpful environment where teamwork prevails. Assists PCCA staff where appropriate
  • CPR certified or ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment
  • Tier 1 status designation
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of the PCCA. Must have the ability to meet and deal with the public and have a pleasant demeanor. They must possess the following:

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment 
  • Valid driver’s license
EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE
  • Experience in the writing and preparation of basic reports
  • General knowledge of the Corpus Christi area preferred
  • Experience operating a motor vehicle, personal computer, multi-line phone as well as standard postage equipment
  • Prior military, police or security experience preferred
  • Six months’ experience in the types of duties outlined above or acceptable equivalent experience preferred
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to work with other employees and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Proficiency in the English language, effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and other related applications
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, crouching, crawling, lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation 
  • Occasionally wear standard Personal Protective Equipment including head, eye and hearing protection when performing job
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions fumes and/or airborne particles
  • Ability to work in a general office environment, with some exposure to the elements when visiting worksites 
  • Frequently exposed to physical danger, hazards associated with driving a motor vehicle, and moderate noise levels
  • Ability to operate light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment  
  • Must be available to work 12-hour shifts, 4 days on and 4 days off including weekends, nights, holidays, and rotating from day shift to night shift and back every four months.
