CORPUS CHRISTI MEDICAL CENTER UPGRADES EMERGENCY ROOM, ANNOUNCES MAJOR CAMPUS ENHANCEMENTS AND INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENTS AT BAY AREA
Newly expanded emergency room and advanced biplane imaging mark first phase of multi-level expansion at the Bay Area campus.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (December 2, 2025)—Corpus Christi Medical Center (CCMC) has officially opened its newly expanded Emergency Room (ER) at the Bay Area campus, along with major investments in imaging technology and inpatient capacity. These upgrades represent the first phase of a multi-level expansion designed to elevate healthcare access and quality across the region.
“The expansion of services at CCMC Bay Area represents a pivotal step in our mission to advance the care and improvement of human life,” said David Irizarry, chief executive officer at Corpus Christi Medical Center. “This transformative investment reflects our deep commitment to delivering exceptional care and expanding access for future generations, strengthening the health and well-being of our community.”
Opened on Monday, December 1, 2025, the Bay Area Tower ER, designated as a Level II Trauma Center, has tripled in size to meet the growing needs of the community. The redesigned space features a streamlined layout and modern amenities that improve patient flow and enhance the overall care experience.
Key features of the expanded ER include:
• 20,912 sq. ft. of new space
• 13 additional treatment rooms
• 29 total ER beds at Bay Area
• A new large waiting area
Walk-in patients and visitors will enter through the new Bay Area Tower entrance at 7002 Williams Drive. For added convenience, Lot A1 (facing Williams Drive) will be available for parking, and complimentary valet service will be offered weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The hospital’s west-side entrance will remain dedicated to EMS ambulance arrivals.
The second phase of CCMC’s expansion includes the addition of 48 new patient beds across the newly elevated 5th and 6th floors of the Bay Area Tower. This development will significantly increase inpatient capacity and support timely access to care. The expected completion date is Q4 2027.
CCMC has also invested in a neurointerventional Radiology Lab and high-performance biplane imaging technology, further enhancing its neuroendovascular capabilities. This advanced technology provides real-time, high-resolution visualization of blood vessels in the brain and spine, allowing physicians to perform complex procedures with greater precision and safety.
“The integration of biplane imaging at CCMC Bay Area represents a significant advancement in neurovascular care for our region,” said Dr. Faheem Sherif, neuroendovascular specialist at CCMC. “This technology offers enhanced clarity and real-time feedback, allowing us to navigate complex vasculature with greater precision, improve procedural efficiency and support improved outcomes for patients experiencing stroke and other critical neurovascular conditions.”
These advancements continue to position Corpus Christi Medical Center as a leading regional provider, expanding access to life-saving treatments and meeting the evolving healthcare needs of our growing community. To learn more, take a tour and visit our website at www.ccmedicalcenter.com.
