Community Relations Specialist

Hiring Range: $52,686.40 - $69,429.36/Year. It is anticipated the hiring rate offered will be +/- the midpoint range depending on qualifications.

Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position is responsible for ensuring proper logistics and active participation in assigned Port business related events, under the direct supervision of the Manager of Community Relations.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Promotes, tracks, and evaluates Port volunteer programs, including the Port Energy Crew, and the Port Volunteer Time Off (VTO) Program
  • Meets with community organizations monthly to identify and plan volunteer opportunities
  • Documents and reports on community engagement metrics, including attendance, participation, and feedback
  • Manages departmental intern(s), including task assignments, guidance, and performance feedback
  • Engages with internal departments, employees, and volunteers to ensure their active participation in PCCA initiatives, fostering a culture of community involvement
  • Serves as a connector between the Port, its employees, and the community by coordinating volunteer opportunities and managing events
  • Compiles the monthly CEO report highlighting departmental activities and outcomes
  • Maintains and compiles evidence to ensure compliance with Green Marine Community Relations standards at Level 5
  • Maintains and assesses the annual Social Impact Report, support development of the department’s annual report
  • Maintains the department’s SharePoint site and inventory of promotional items
  • Provides administrative and organizational support to ensure effective tracking and reporting of all community relations programs
  • Promotes PCCA programs through various channels, including public speaking engagements, media relations, social media, and community events
  • Monitors and measures the outcomes and impact of community programs, preparing reports and communicating results to internal stakeholders, community partners, and funding organizations
  • CPR certified or the ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment
  • Tier 3 status designation
 CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate for this position should be highly organized and detail-oriented, effective at balancing multiple projects, and motivated to learn. They must possess the following:
  
EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations or communications preferred
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment 
  • Valid driver’s license
 EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE
  • Strong understanding of community needs assessment, partnership building, and project management
  • Two to four years of experience in community relations, public affairs, or nonprofit/community program coordination
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, government agencies, and internal teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to community challenges
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
  • Passion for community engagement and making a positive impact
 ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation 
  • Ability to work in a general office environment, with some exposure to the elements when visiting worksites, and ability to wear personnel protective equipment, including hard hat, steel-toed footwear, eye and hearing protection when performing work functions
  • Ability to operate light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed
