A Darkroom Master & A Digital Wizard
Jerry Uelsmann and Russell P. Brown delve into the past, present, and future of photography and darkroom or digital manipulation. This program is free to the public.
83 year old master photographer, Jerry Uelsmann, was experimenting with the manipulation of images through darkroom techniques as early as the 1950s, while the mainstream remained skeptical. Today, the photography world has finally caught up with Uelsmann, making him the undisputed father of photographic manipulation. Beginning at 10 am, Jerry will speak on the alchemy of the darkroom in his talk "Alchemy at 83".
Russell P. Brown is a Senior Creative Director at Adobe Systems Incorporated and the Curatorial Advisor for Digital Darkroom. Renowned... for his creative artistry and his entertaining presentation style, he was instrumental in the 1990 introduction of Adobe Photoshop, which revolutionized the techniques used to manipulate images.
Following Uelsmann (approximately 11:30 am), Step into Russell Preston Brown’s world of mobile photography and the rapidly changing digital landscape of imaging through his talk titled "Underwater, on the Land, and in the Air: The Future of Mobile Photography". Travel underwater, on the land, and into the air and see what Russell is capturing with his mobile devices. Russell will also demonstrate that the lessons we learn from a great master of photography like Jerry Uelsmann, are still just as important to mobile photography today.
