DESCRIPTION:The Corpus Christi Navy League is proud to announce the re-launch of the Texas Division of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC).  \n\n\n\nThe celebration will be aboard the USS Lexington and include an official ribbon-cutting with the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce.\n\n\n\nAt the request of the Department of the Navy\, the Navy League of the United States established the USNSCC in 1962 to "create a favorable image of the Navy on the part of American youth".\n\n \n\nThe Sea Cadet program is available for youth ages 10 through 18.   \n\nRegistration is available year-round to all Coastal Bend area Youth.   \n\nThe Texas Division Unit meets and drills aboard the USS Lexington under the command of Captain Jim Jones\, USN (RET).\n\n\n\nLocal dignitaries\, The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi\, CAPT Philip Brock\, CO NASCC\, CAPT Steve Banta USN (RET) Executive Director of the USS Lexington\, local NJROTC units\, Navy League Corpus Christi Board and numerous community figures have been invited to attend and participate in the ceremony.  The ceremony is open to the public and is free to attend.\n\n\n\n"The re-establishment of the Texas Division of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps in the Coastal Bend area of Texas is exciting for the cadets\, the LEXINGTON museum\, the community\, the Navy\, and the Coast Guard.  The Coastal Bend area of Texas has a long history of outstanding support of the sea services. Couple that with the innumerable opportunities available aboard LEXINGTON\, and Texas Division will soon be one of the best units in the country.  This would not have been possible without the support of the Corpus Christi chapter of the Navy League and the LEXINGTON museum." States CAPT Jim Jones\, USN (RET)\, CO Texas Division USNSCC.  He further went on to share "It is a great honor and privilege for me to command Texas Division.  The Sea Cadets gave me the start I needed.  The things I learned as a cadet kick started my Naval career which spanned more than 38 years of active duty. I truly believe that I would not have had the career I had without the Sea Cadet experience."
